cefpirome + sulbactam

Cefpirome + sulbactam is a parenteral fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of cefpirome, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefpirome provides broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* and members of the *Enterobacteriaceae* family. It works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam acts as a suicide inhibitor of various beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby protecting cefpirome from enzymatic degradation and extending its therapeutic spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing resistant strains. This combination is primarily used for the treatment of severe systemic infections, such as sepsis, pneumonia, and complicated urinary tract infections, particularly when multi-drug resistance is suspected.
