Cefpodoxime + potassium clavulanate is an oral fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of cefpodoxime proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefpodoxime functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis.
