Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HIPODOX is a branded generic formulation of **cefpodoxime proxetil**, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is developed and manufactured by Rishab Health Care for the Indian market, available in oral dosage forms including 100 mg and 200 mg tablets and a dry syrup formulation for pediatric use. Cefpodoxime proxetil is an orally active prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime. It exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). The drug is indicated for the treatment of various mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, including acute otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
