Wahlcep-CV (also known as Wahlcep-CV 325) is an oral fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing cefpodoxime proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is marketed by Beste Wahl India for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. Cefpodoxime proxetil is a prodrug that is converted in vivo to active cefpodoxime, which exerts bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Potassium clavulanate acts as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing the degradation of cefpodoxime and restoring its efficacy against beta-lactamase-producing resistant bacterial strains.
