Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALLPOD CV is an oral fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing cefpodoxime proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Developed by JoY Pharma, it is indicated for the treatment of various mild-to-moderate bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. Cefpodoxime proxetil acts as a bactericidal agent by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Potassium clavulanate serves as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting cefpodoxime from enzymatic degradation and extending its spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing, resistant bacterial strains.
