Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bactiloc-DXL is an oral, extended-release combination antibiotic tablet containing cefpodoxime proxetil (a third-generation cephalosporin) and dicloxacillin (a penicillinase-resistant penicillin). Developed by Intra Life, this combination is designed to treat various bacterial infections, including acute otitis media, pharyngitis, and sinusitis. Cefpodoxime proxetil acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Dicloxacillin also targets PBPs but is uniquely resistant to degradation by bacterial penicillinase (beta-lactamase), thereby extending the spectrum of activity against penicillinase-producing strains such as *Staphylococcus aureus*. The extended-release formulation of dicloxacillin ensures sustained therapeutic levels and reduces dosing frequency.
