cefprozil

Cefprozil is a semisynthetic, second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media (middle ear infection), sinusitis, bronchitis, and skin or soft tissue infections. It acts by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside the bacterial cell wall and inhibiting the final stage of cell wall synthesis. This leads to cell lysis mediated by autolytic enzymes within the bacteria. Cefprozil is administered orally as tablets or suspension and is effective against a broad range of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria[1][2][3][4][5][6]. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.
