ceftibuten

Ceftibuten is an orally administered, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is effective against pathogens such as *Haemophilus influenzae*, *Moraxella catarrhalis*, and certain strains of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* and *Streptococcus pyogenes*. Ceftibuten works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in bacteria, inhibiting cell wall synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. It is indicated for acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, enteritis, and gastroenteritis[1][2][4][5][7]. The drug demonstrates high stability against many beta-lactamases but may be less effective against organisms with chromosomally-mediated resistance mechanisms[6].
