Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zoxprime SB is a fixed-dose combination antibacterial injection containing ceftizoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Marketed by Sunwin Healthcare, this combination is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including complicated respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia), urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. Ceftizoxime works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Sulbactam acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, irreversibly binding to and inactivating beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby protecting ceftizoxime from enzymatic degradation and restoring its broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy.
