Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antibiotic therapy consisting of four different antimicrobial agents: 1. **Ceftriaxone**: A third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It has broad-spectrum activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria[4]. 2. **Ciprofloxacin**: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. It has excellent activity against many Gram-negative organisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa[2][7]. 3. **Meropenem**: A carbapenem antibiotic with ultra-broad spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many multidrug-resistant organisms[5][7]. 4. **Vancomycin**: A glycopeptide antibiotic that inhibits cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria, particularly effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)[3][5]. This combination provides extremely broad antimicrobial coverage and is typically used for empiric therapy in critically ill patients with suspected severe infections, particularly when multidrug-resistant organisms are a concern.
