Overview

Ceftriaxone + linezolid is a combination of two antibiotics used primarily for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including those caused by drug-resistant organisms such as penicillin-non-susceptible *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to defective cell walls and bacterial death. Linezolid is an oxazolidinone-class synthetic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to rRNA on both the 30S and 50S ribosomal subunits, preventing formation of the initiation complex in translation. This combination may be used in cases such as pneumococcal meningitis where broad-spectrum coverage and activity against resistant Gram-positive bacteria are required[1][3][4][5][6].
