Overview

Ceftriaxone + sulbactam is a combination antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacterial enzymes from breaking down ceftriaxone, thereby enhancing its effectiveness against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. This combination is particularly effective against multidrug-resistant bacteria and is commonly used for conditions such as meningitis, pneumonia (community- and hospital-acquired), otitis media, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and other serious bacterial infections[1][5][8].
