Overview

**Cefomax** is a fixed-dose injectable antibacterial combination of the third-generation cephalosporin **ceftriaxone** and the beta-lactamase inhibitor **sulbactam**. The Maxx Pharm product contains ceftriaxone 1 g and sulbactam 500 mg per vial as powders for preparation of an intravenous or intramuscular solution. Ceftriaxone is bactericidal through inhibition of bacterial cell-wall synthesis, while sulbactam irreversibly inhibits susceptible bacterial beta-lactamases and can restore or enhance ceftriaxone activity against beta-lactamase-producing organisms. Maxx Pharm markets the product for susceptible bacterial infections, including urinary tract, intra-abdominal, lower respiratory tract, ear-nose-throat, skin and soft-tissue, bone and joint, genital tract, and central nervous system infections, as well as perioperative infection prophylaxis.
