Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ceftriaxone + sulbactam + edetate disodium (marketed under the brand name Elores) is a patented fixed-dose combination antibiotic adjuvant entity developed by Venus Remedies to combat multi-drug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacterial infections, particularly those producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs). The combination consists of ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis; sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects ceftriaxone from enzymatic degradation; and edetate disodium (EDTA), a non-antibiotic adjuvant that acts as an antibiotic resistance breaker. EDTA chelates divalent metal ions such as zinc (essential for MBL activity) and calcium (essential for efflux pump function and biofilm stability), thereby restoring the susceptibility of resistant pathogens to ceftriaxone. It is approved in India and several other countries for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs), lower respiratory tract infections, and other severe systemic infections.
