Ceftriaxone Kalceks

Ceftriaxone Kalceks is a branded generic formulation of the third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic ceftriaxone, developed and manufactured by the Latvian pharmaceutical company AS Kalceks in collaboration with Semmelweis University. It is a broad-spectrum bactericidal agent indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including sepsis, meningitis, abdominal infections, and respiratory tract infections. The drug exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through covalent binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), specifically PBP 1a, 1b, 2, and 3. This inhibition prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan polymers, leading to structural instability and subsequent osmotic lysis of the bacterial cell. Ceftriaxone is characterized by its high stability against beta-lactamases and a long elimination half-life, which facilitates once-daily dosing in many clinical settings.
