Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ceftrimed is an oral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing cefixime as the active ingredient. Developed and marketed by Nutramedica Inc. in the Philippines, it is primarily used to treat pediatric bacterial infections such as otitis media and respiratory tract infections. The drug functions by binding to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall and leading to cell lysis. It is available in pediatric-specific formulations, such as granules for oral suspension at a concentration of 100 mg/5 mL.
