cefuroxime + flucloxacillin + metronidazole

This is a combination regimen of three antibiotics—cefuroxime, flucloxacillin, and metronidazole—used together for broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage.

• Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, effective against many Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria.
• Flucloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic (penicillin class) that targets mainly Gram-positive organisms, especially Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains), by inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
• Metronidazole is an antimicrobial agent particularly active against anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa; it disrupts DNA synthesis in susceptible organisms.
  The combination provides comprehensive coverage for mixed infections involving aerobic Gram-positive cocci (notably staphylococci), some Gram-negative bacilli, and anaerobes. It may be used as empirical therapy in surgical prophylaxis or treatment of polymicrobial infections such as intra-abdominal sepsis or complicated skin/soft tissue infections where both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens are likely to be present.
