CEL-2000 is a therapeutic vaccine candidate developed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It is based on the Ligand Epitope Antigen Presentation System (LEAPS) technology, which converts a disease-specific peptide epitope into an immunogen by attaching it to an immune or T cell binding peptide. Specifically, CEL-2000 consists of a peptide from human collagen type II (254–273) conjugated to a peptide from human beta2 microglobulin. In preclinical models, CEL-2000 has demonstrated efficacy in limiting disease progression in collagen-induced arthritis by modulating immune responses and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-17, while increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10 and IL-12p70. The vaccine acts earlier in the inflammatory process and in an antigen-specific manner compared to standard therapies[2][3]. It is being developed using LEAPS technology by CEL-SCI Corporation.
