Celarivir potassium (GT-0486) is a small molecule inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3/4A protease. Developed by Ginkgo Tree Pharmaceuticals (Suzhou), it was investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. The drug functions by binding to the active site of the NS3/4A serine protease, an enzyme complex essential for the proteolytic cleavage of the HCV polyprotein into mature non-structural proteins required for viral replication. Celarivir potassium underwent Phase 1 clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers. Like other first- and second-generation protease inhibitors, it was designed to be part of a direct-acting antiviral (DAA) regimen to achieve sustained virologic response in patients with chronic HCV.
