Overview

Celastrus orbiculatus extract (COE) is a botanical extract derived from the Oriental bittersweet plant, a member of the Celastraceae family used in traditional Chinese medicine for its anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties. COE has demonstrated antineoplastic activity in preclinical models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), specifically by inducing apoptosis through the inhibition of the mTOR signaling pathway. It modulates the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, including the down-regulation of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL and the up-regulation of Bax and caspase-3. Research indicates its potential as a chemotherapeutic agent for HCC and other cancers.
