Celecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, acute pain in adults (including musculoskeletal pain), primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children aged 2 years and older, and to reduce the number of colon and rectal polyps in people with familial adenomatous polyposis. Celecoxib works by selectively inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme involved in prostaglandin synthesis—thereby reducing inflammation and pain while causing less gastrointestinal mucosal damage compared to traditional NSAIDs that inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2. It is administered orally. Common side effects include abdominal discomfort, nausea, diarrhea; serious risks include cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke as well as gastrointestinal bleeding[1][5][6][7][8].
