Celecoxib + fluoxetine is a combination of two approved small molecule drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Celecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), primarily used to treat pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, indicated for major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, panic disorder, and other psychiatric conditions. This combination has been studied experimentally for its potential to enhance antidepressant efficacy in treatment-resistant depression by targeting both inflammatory pathways (via COX-2 inhibition) and serotonergic neurotransmission. Preclinical studies suggest that celecoxib may potentiate the effects of fluoxetine on cortical serotonin output[3]. However, co-administration increases the risk of adverse effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding due to additive effects on platelet function and GI mucosa integrity[7]. There are no known brand or trade names for this specific fixed-dose combination; it is not an approved or marketed product but may be used off-label or in research settings.
