Overview

Celecoxib + ketoprofen refers to the co-administration of two distinct nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Celecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, meaning it primarily targets the COX-2 enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain, while having minimal effect on COX-1, which is involved in gastric protection. It is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain, painful menstruation, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and to reduce the risk of colorectal adenomas in familial adenomatous polyposis. Ketoprofen is a non-selective NSAID, inhibiting both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins that mediate pain, inflammation, and fever. It also inhibits the lipoxygenase pathway and has been shown to involve serotoninergic mechanisms. Ketoprofen is used for arthritis-related inflammatory pains, severe toothaches, musculoskeletal pain, and menstrual pain. While both drugs provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, their co-administration is generally avoided due to an increased risk of gastrointestinal toxicity and other adverse reactions, as there is no evidence of synergistic benefits.
