Overview

Celecoxib + sulfasalazine is a combination of two small molecule drugs used primarily in the management of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Celecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which reduces pain and inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Sulfasalazine is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) that combines an anti-inflammatory salicylate with a sulfa antibiotic; it reduces joint pain, swelling, and may prevent long-term joint damage in arthritis. The exact mechanism of action for sulfasalazine in rheumatoid arthritis remains unclear but involves reduction of inflammation. This combination may be used when monotherapy does not provide adequate symptom control, though caution is advised due to potential for increased adverse effects when these drugs are combined[1][2][3][4].
