Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cellegesic is a topical formulation of nitroglycerin (also known as glyceryl trinitrate) used primarily for the treatment of pain associated with chronic anal fissures. Nitroglycerin acts as a vasodilator by releasing nitric oxide, which relaxes smooth muscle in blood vessels and increases blood flow to the affected area. This mechanism helps reduce anal sphincter pressure and promotes healing of fissures. The drug is applied topically to the affected area, providing localized relief from pain and facilitating tissue repair.
