Cellentra Viable Cell Bone Matrix (VCBM) is a cryopreserved allogeneic cellular bone matrix product developed by Zimmer Biomet. It is derived from cadaveric donor bone and contains viable mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), osteoprogenitor cells, and pre-osteoblasts, combined with demineralized or cancellous bone chips as a carrier. The product is designed to support bone regeneration by providing both osteogenic cells and an osteoconductive scaffold. Its primary mechanism of action involves direct cell replacement to promote new bone formation in orthopedic applications, particularly for musculoskeletal conditions such as intervertebral disc degeneration and spinal fusion procedures[1][3][4]. The MSCs within the matrix contribute to tissue repair through differentiation into osteoblasts and secretion of paracrine factors that modulate the local environment[8]. The product undergoes rigorous processing for sterility, viability, and potency before clinical use.
