Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cellgram-AKI is an allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy developed by Pharmicell Co. Ltd. It was initially developed for the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI), a rapid decline in kidney function often caused by ischemia-reperfusion injury. The therapy works through multiple mechanisms, including anti-inflammatory effects, anti-apoptotic actions, promotion of angiogenesis, reduction of oxidative stress, prevention of fibrosis, and immunomodulation. Cellgram-AKI also received temporary approval in South Korea in 2020 for the treatment of severe pneumonia in COVID-19 patients, with extended approval in 2021, leveraging its anti-inflammatory properties to prevent cytokine storm-related symptoms.
