Cellgram-Spine is an autologous cell therapy developed by Pharmicell Co., Ltd. for the treatment of chronic spinal cord injury. The therapy involves the extraction of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from the patient's own bone marrow, which are then expanded ex vivo and transplanted directly into the injured spinal cord (intramedullary) or the spinal canal (intrathecal). The therapeutic effect is primarily mediated through paracrine signaling, where the transplanted MSCs secrete various neurotrophic factors, anti-inflammatory cytokines, and angiogenic factors. These substances help to modulate the inflammatory environment at the injury site, promote axonal regeneration, and provide neuroprotection, ultimately aiming to improve motor and sensory functions in patients with debilitating spinal cord damage.
