CELLISTEM-OA is an autologous cell therapy product composed of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs), specifically developed for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee. Developed by the Turkish biotechnology company Cellistem, the treatment involves harvesting a patient's own adipose tissue, followed by the isolation, expansion, and characterization of mesenchymal stem cells in a GMP-certified facility. These cells are then administered via intra-articular injection into the affected joint. The therapeutic effect is mediated through the secretion of various bioactive molecules (paracrine effect) that modulate the inflammatory environment, inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines, and promote the repair of damaged articular cartilage. It is intended for patients with degenerative joint disease who have not responded to conventional pharmacological or physical therapies.
