Overview

Cellistem sEV-OA is a cell-free therapy developed by Cells for Cells and Universidad de los Andes, Chile, for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). It consists of small extracellular vesicles (sEV) derived from umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSC). The therapy's mechanism of action involves immunomodulation, specifically polarizing macrophages to an anti-inflammatory M2b-like phenotype through STAT1 modulation, thereby creating an anti-inflammatory environment in affected joints. Preclinical studies have also demonstrated its ability to induce hyaline cartilage regeneration. The product is being developed with a focus on standardized, clinical-grade manufacturing processes compliant with GMP standards.
