Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CellNap is an experimental metabolic modulator developed by researchers at Mayo Clinic Florida to reduce hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and improve organ preservation during liver surgery and transplantation. It functions by inducing a hibernation-like state in hepatocytes, which suppresses metabolic activity, glucose consumption, and protein translation, thereby reducing nutrient demand and biosynthetic processes while preserving cell viability. CellNap shifts cellular metabolism toward oxidative phosphorylation by utilizing glycerol as an alternative energy source to glucose. In preclinical models, systemic pre-administration of CellNap significantly reduced liver injury markers (ALT and AST), necrotic area, and apoptosis (cleaved caspase-3) following hepatic ischemia-reperfusion.
