Celox PPH

Celox PPH is a **uterine hemostatic tamponade** in the form of a chitosan-covered gauze specifically designed for rapid and effective control of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), often when conventional methods (uterotonics, antifibrinolytics, packing) have failed[1][5][6][7]. Its mechanism of action is physical and chemical: the chitosan in the gauze rapidly absorbs fluid from blood, forming a robust gel that creates a mucoadhesive plug at the site of bleeding, sealing it independently of the body’s natural clotting cascade[5][3]. This action is effective even in patients with coagulopathy or on anticoagulation therapy. The gel plug forms a physical barrier, attracts anionic red blood cells, and helps local clot formation, ultimately biodegrading through natural enzymatic breakdown into glucosamine[5]. Clinical studies have shown Celox PPH to reduce the need for hysterectomy, to be safe and inexpensive, and to have very high effectiveness (95.6–100% haemostasis) for PPH control[1][5][6][7]. Designed primarily for use following vaginal or caesarean delivery, Celox PPH can remain in place for up to 24–48 hours and is simple to apply and remove.
