Overview

Celstem is a standardized, autologous stromal vascular fraction (SVF) product developed by Cellab Laboratory for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The product is derived from a patient's own adipose tissue, typically obtained through abdominal liposuction. The extracted tissue undergoes a controlled manufacturing process involving enzymatic digestion with collagenase, incubation, and concentration to isolate a heterogeneous population of cells, including mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, and immunomodulatory leukocytes. Celstem is administered via intra-articular injection, where it is hypothesized to alleviate pain and promote cartilage repair through paracrine signaling, immunomodulation, and potential cellular regeneration. It has been approved by the Government of Andorra for clinical application in joint regeneration.
