Overview

Cendakimab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin 13 (IL-13), a cytokine involved in type 2 inflammation. By binding to IL-13 and blocking its interaction with the IL-13 receptor alpha 1 (IL-13Rα1) and IL-13 receptor alpha 2 (IL-13Rα2), cendakimab inhibits pathways responsible for eosinophil recruitment, epithelial barrier dysfunction, fibrosis (scarring), and tissue remodeling. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the esophagus. Cendakimab has also been studied in moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection and has shown efficacy in reducing symptoms and inflammation associated with EoE as well as improving endoscopic and histologic features even in patients refractory or intolerant to steroids[1][3][4][5][7][8].
