Overview

Centaurea aegyptiaca methanolic extract is a natural product research compound derived from the aerial parts of the *Centaurea aegyptiaca* L. plant, a member of the Asteraceae family native to Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula. The extract is characterized by a complex phytochemical profile containing sixty-one phenolic compounds, including various phenolic acids, flavonols, and flavones. In preclinical academic studies, the extract has demonstrated significant in vitro cytotoxic activity against several human cancer cell lines, including hepatocellular carcinoma (Hep-G2), breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), colon carcinoma (HCT-116), and cervical carcinoma (HELA). It also exhibits weak antiviral activity specifically against the hepatitis A virus. Currently, research is primarily conducted within academic institutions in Egypt, such as Al-Azhar University and October University of Modern Sciences and Arts, with no evidence of commercial pharmaceutical development or clinical-stage trials.
