Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Centratherum anthelminticum fixed oil is the non-volatile (fixed) lipid fraction extracted from the seeds of Centratherum anthelminticum, a plant widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. The seeds contain approximately 18% fixed oil, which is rich in fatty acids such as linoleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, and vernolic acid[2][5]. This fixed oil exhibits multiple pharmacological properties including strong anthelmintic (anti-parasitic), antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antihyperglycemic (blood sugar-lowering), and wound-healing activities[2][5]. Mechanistically, its effects are attributed to bioactive compounds like flavonoids and sterols that modulate inflammatory pathways (e.g., downregulation of NF-κB), oxidative stress responses (e.g., upregulation of catalase and other antioxidants), and metabolic processes relevant to diabetes and hyperlipidemia[1][6]. It is traditionally used for treating intestinal worms (roundworms/tapeworms/threadworms), skin diseases such as eczema or vitiligo due to its ability to promote melanin synthesis and wound healing; it also finds use in managing diabetes mellitus by improving glycemic control[2][4][5].
