Overview

Centrifuged autologous fat (CAF) is a biological tissue graft prepared by harvesting adipose tissue from a patient—typically via liposuction from the abdomen, thighs, or gluteal region—and processing it through centrifugation. This mechanical separation removes blood, lipids, and anesthetic contaminants, resulting in a concentrated suspension of viable adipocytes and adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs). CAF is utilized in regenerative medicine and plastic surgery as an injectable filler to treat conditions such as glottic insufficiency (vocal fold paralysis), soft tissue defects, and to prevent complications like capsular contracture in breast augmentation. The centrifugation step is a key technical variation intended to improve the predictability and longevity of the fat graft compared to non-centrifuged alternatives.
