Veoxy is a brand name for cephradine, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic manufactured by Berlex Lab International in Pakistan. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and lobar pneumonia), urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. Cephradine exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. This interference prevents the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains, which are essential for bacterial wall strength and rigidity, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against a range of Gram-positive organisms, including *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, as well as some Gram-negative organisms like *Escherichia coli*.
