CERAMENT V

CERAMENT V is an injectable, moldable synthetic bone graft substitute and bone void filler composed of 60% calcium sulfate, 40% hydroxyapatite, and embedded vancomycin hydrochloride, with an iohexol-containing liquid (CERAMENT C-TRU) for radiopacity.[1][2][3][9] It is engineered as a biphasic bioceramic that resorbs at approximately the same rate that new bone forms, with calcium sulfate acting as a resorbable carrier and hydroxyapatite providing slow-resorbing, highly osteoconductive structural support to promote bone ingrowth and remodeling of the implant into host bone within about 6–12 months.[1][2][3][5][9] Vancomycin is locally eluted at high concentrations from the matrix (about 66 mg/mL paste), maintaining levels above the minimum inhibitory concentration for vancomycin-sensitive gram‑positive bacteria (including MRSA and MRSE) for a clinically relevant period to prevent bacterial colonization of the graft and protect bone healing while minimizing systemic exposure.[1][2][5][7][9] The product is developed by Bonesupport as part of its CERAMENT technology platform and is intended to fill bone voids and defects in the extremities and pelvis, often after debridement for bone infection or trauma, enabling single-stage management of bone defects and infections when used adjunctively with standard surgical care and systemic antibiotics.[1][2][5][6][7][8][11]
