Overview

Ceranib-2 is a **novel small molecule inhibitor of cellular ceramidase**, which plays a crucial role in regulating cell fate by hydrolyzing ceramide to sphingosine and a fatty acid. By inhibiting ceramidase, ceranib-2 increases intracellular ceramide levels and reduces sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) levels, leading to apoptosis in various cancer cells. It has shown **cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic effects** in human cancer cell lines, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. Ceranib-2 has been investigated both as a single agent and in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents like carboplatin and paclitaxel.
