Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ceratonia siliqua extract, commonly known as carob extract, is a botanical extract derived from the pods, pulp, or seeds of the *Ceratonia siliqua* (carob) tree. It is rich in bioactive compounds, including dietary fibers (such as galactomannans), inositols (such as D-pinitol), and polyphenols (such as gallic acid, flavonoids, and tannins). The extract exhibits potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties. In preclinical models, it has been shown to protect the ovarian reserve against chemotherapy-induced damage (such as cyclophosphamide-induced toxicity) by modulating Bax/Bcl-2-mediated apoptosis, and to alleviate doxorubicin-induced nephrotoxicity. Additionally, standardized formulations like Csat are investigated for weight management, metabolic health, and appetite regulation due to their ability to stimulate the secretion of satiety hormones like GLP-1 and cholecystokinin (CCK), as well as improving lipid profiles and glycemic control.
