Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CeraVe is a line of over-the-counter (OTC) skincare products characterized by the inclusion of three essential ceramides (ceramide 1, 3, and 6-II) and a patented Multivesicular Emulsion (MVE) delivery technology. The MVE technology allows for a controlled, phased release of ingredients over time to help restore the skin's natural barrier and retain moisture. In clinical evaluations, such as those sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), CeraVe has been studied for its efficacy in treating xerosis (moderate to severe skin dryness) and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) on the feet of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. By replenishing the lipid components of the stratum corneum, it helps maintain skin integrity and prevent complications associated with severe dryness.
