Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CeraVe Cream + CeraVe Healing Ointment + Cetaphil Cream + Vanicream + petrolatum refers to the specific set of lipid-rich emollients used as the intervention in the CASCADE (A Community-based Assessment of Skin Care, Allergies, and Eczema) clinical trial (NCT03409367). This pragmatic, randomized trial evaluates the primary prevention of atopic dermatitis (AD) in a general population of infants by daily application of one of these five products starting before 9 weeks of age and continuing for 24 months. The emollients were selected for their high lipid content and absence of common sensitizers, aiming to enhance skin barrier function and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). The study, led by Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and supported by the NIAMS, investigates whether early barrier protection can prevent the 'atopic march,' including the subsequent development of food allergies and asthma.
