Overview

Cerebrocurin is a peptide-based neuroprotective drug developed and manufactured in Ukraine by the Scientific-Research Institute (NIR) of Molecular Medicine. It consists of a complex of low-molecular-weight neuropeptides and amino acids derived from bovine embryo brain tissue. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of organic brain lesions, including ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive disorders such as dementia and developmental delays in children. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of endogenous neuroprotective pathways, specifically increasing the expression of heat shock proteins (HSP70) and hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF-1α, HIF-3α). These actions help stabilize cell membranes, inhibit apoptosis, and promote neuroplasticity and functional recovery of the central nervous system. It is often compared to other cerebroprotectors like Cerebrolysin but is distinguished by its embryonic source material.
