Cerebrolysin + placebo refers to the combination of Cerebrolysin, a multimodal neuropeptide drug derived from purified porcine brain proteins, and an inert placebo used as a control in clinical trials. Cerebrolysin is composed of biologically active peptides and free amino acids obtained by enzymatic breakdown of pig brain proteins. It exhibits neurotrophic, neuroprotective, neuroplasticity-promoting, and neurogenic effects by modulating key signaling pathways such as the neurotrophic factor (NTF) pathway and sonic hedgehog (Shh) pathway. These actions support neuronal survival, repair processes after injury or degeneration (such as stroke or traumatic brain injury), reduce oxidative stress-induced apoptosis, inhibit free radical formation, and promote regeneration of neural networks[3][4][9]. Placebo is an inactive substance with no therapeutic effect used for comparison in controlled studies.
