Overview

Cerebroside + carnosine (Chinese name: 脑苷肌肽) is a combination drug formulation used primarily in China as a neurotrophic agent. It contains two main components: - **Cerebrosides** are glycosphingolipids found in animal nerve tissue, believed to support neuronal repair and regeneration. - **Carnosine** is a naturally occurring dipeptide (beta-alanyl-L-histidine) with antioxidant, anti-glycation, and metal-chelating properties. Carnosine is concentrated in muscle and brain tissues and has been studied for its neuroprotective effects[1][2][5]. This combination is typically administered by injection for the treatment of neurological conditions such as stroke recovery, peripheral facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy), traumatic brain injury, or other central nervous system disorders where neuroprotection or neural repair is desired[4]. The mechanism of action involves antioxidation (carnosine), membrane stabilization, promotion of neuronal survival and repair (cerebrosides), and possible modulation of neurotransmitter systems.
