Overview

Cerlapirdine is a selective and potent full antagonist of the serotonin 6 (5-HT6) receptor. It was developed by Wyeth and later Pfizer for the treatment of cognitive disorders associated with Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia. The drug demonstrated a trend toward efficacy in phase II clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease, with a favorable side effect profile and no serious adverse events reported. However, development was discontinued after 2011 with no further advancement in clinical trials[1][2][3][4][5]. Cerlapirdine belongs to the class of antidementia agents.
