Overview

Certoparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots, particularly deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and acute coronary syndrome. It acts primarily by binding to antithrombin III and inhibiting coagulation factor Xa, thereby interfering with the body's natural blood clotting mechanism. Certoparin is administered subcutaneously and offers more predictable pharmacokinetics than unfractionated heparin due to its lower affinity for plasma proteins. Developed as an isoamyl nitrite depolymerized LMWH, it shares structural similarities with other nitrous acid depolymerized products like nadroparin and reviparin but differs from dalteparin due to differences in purification processes. Certoparin is approved in several countries for DVT prophylaxis and treatment, with additional indications under development[1][2][3][4][5][6].
