Overview

Cerustop is an over-the-counter ear care product developed and marketed by Dr. Wilhelm Benend (bene-arzneimittel). It is primarily indicated for the softening and removal of excess or hardened earwax (cerumen) and for the cleaning of the external auditory canal. The formulation is an oil-based spray containing a mixture of caprylic/capric triglycerides, paraffin oil, isostearyl isostearate, almond oil, and surfactants like PEG-40 sorbitan peroleate. These components work synergistically to penetrate the lipid-rich structure of cerumen, facilitating its dissolution and subsequent removal. Cerustop is also used to prevent the formation of cerumen plugs, particularly in individuals prone to excessive earwax production or those using hearing aids.
