Overview

Cervarix + Gardasil-9 is a combination of two prophylactic vaccines designed to protect against infection with human papillomaviruses (HPV), which are associated with the development of cervical and other anogenital cancers, as well as genital warts. Cervarix is a bivalent HPV vaccine targeting types 16 and 18, the two most common high-risk HPV types responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancers. Gardasil-9 is a nonavalent HPV vaccine that targets nine HPV types (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58), providing broader protection against both cancer-causing and wart-causing strains. Both vaccines work by inducing neutralizing antibodies against the L1 protein of targeted HPV types using virus-like particles (VLPs) produced via recombinant DNA technology. The combination would theoretically provide overlapping and extended coverage for prevention of persistent infection with oncogenic HPVs and related diseases[1][5][6].
